Walk into any projector conversation in India right now and "laser" gets thrown around as the obvious upgrade. It usually is as simple as it seems and it's worth understanding why before paying the premium.

The Three Types Light Sources Used In Projectors

  • Lamp (UHP) projectors:
    Use a traditional mercury vapor bulb, the same basic technology that's powered projectors for two decades.
    They're the cheapest to manufacture, which keeps entry prices low, but the bulb degrades over its lifespan,  both in brightness and color accuracy and needs replacement every 5,000 to 10,000 hours, typically costing several thousand rupees per replacement.
  • LED projector:
